Boards & Commissions

Iowa is home to vibrant communities who possess a wealth of talent, skills and experience. To ensure an effective and representative government, The Office of the Governor is seeking skilled and experienced individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds to serve on the boards and commissions of the State of Iowa.

Boards and Commissions are responsible for advising the Governor and Lt Governor, the legislature and state agencies. The Office of the Governor is looking for qualified applicants who are strong believers in becoming an active voice in state government.

Current and Upcoming Appointment Opportunities is a real-time listing highlighting opportunities on Iowa’s boards and Commissions. It identifies positions that are vacant or past due and ready for immediate appointment, as well as positions with a term ending in the next 6 months.

Get Involved

Looking for a way to get involved and make your voice heard? Serving on a board or commission is one of the most direct ways to contribute to Iowa’s future. The Office of the Governor appoints qualified individuals each year, on a rolling basis, to more than 180 boards and commissions covering education, healthcare, public safety, the environment, and much more.

Iowa law requires boards and commissions to reflect political affiliation, geography, and a wide range of backgrounds—so that every perspective matters. When you apply, your information is kept on file as part of the public record, making you eligible for current and future opportunities to serve. If you’re ready to step forward and share your experience, this is your chance to play an active role in shaping the state you call home.
